What 170 live tokens actually deliver

Each one was asked to move its largest reachable holders' entire balance, and both ends of that movement were weighed. Read at block 58,933,985, and every reading pinned to it.

How it is done without a key

eth_call takes a third parameter, a state override, and one of the things it can override is an account's code. contracts/Probe.sol is installed at a real holder's address for the duration of one call that changes nothing, so inside the token msg.sender is the address that genuinely owns the units. No approval, no funding, no fork, no transaction, and no state on this chain was touched — this is a simulation on the node's own evaluator against its own storage.

Two corrections that changed the answer

The first run reported four tokens refusing, WETH among them. The reasons they gave were “transfer amount exceeds balance” and OpenZeppelin's ERC20InsufficientBalance — which is to say the balance had been read at one head and the transfer simulated at a later one, and the holder had moved in between. On a chain this busy that happens every time, and it arrives looking exactly like a token that will not honour a transfer: the strongest possible finding, manufactured entirely by the measurement. Every read is pinned to one block now.

The second run reported every token exact, and that was also the tool's fault. The largest holder of a token is almost always its liquidity pool, and a pool is precisely the address a taxed token exempts. Asking only the largest holder to send to a fresh wallet measures the one route that was never going to be charged. 4 paths are probed per token now — three holders to a fresh address, and the second holder to the first, which is a sell.
